The Ritz Bar and He's so incredibly talented It is perhaps cliche to lament the ever-changing — and often declining — state of queer nightlife across America. But New York, as it often does, has managed to avoid this trend — or, at least, the city has held it off. Outliers like Suite, which is uptown by Columbia University, and Toolbox, which is on the Upper East Side, have secured their keep by doubling as neighborhood haunts. It closed down less than two years later.

The celebration included a ribbon-cutting ceremony with New York City drag icon and LGBTQ+ rights activist Brita, Council Member Erik Bottcher, and the owner Eric.

The transformation includes a full interior refresh—new ambient lighting in the bar and dance floor, upgraded HVAC systems, proper bathroom ventilation, new draft beer lines, and an entirely redesigned dancefloor with updated flooring, benches, and integrated visual lighting.

Browsing the poetry section of the bookstore, I bumped right into Jacob, and the way his eyes sparkled as he apologized made me realize this was my official gay meet cute. Laughing, I figured my love story, filled with all the usual LGBT tropes, was finally beginning. This felt like a movie, and I was ready for a whole new chapter of my life.
